HISTORY OF SAHYA

For the last fifty years the Indian Economy, especially the Economy of Kerala is greatly indebted to the expatriates. It is with the intention of the rehabilitation of these people, along with the exploration of tourism possibilities and educational uplifting of Wandoor and its surrounding areas that Sahya Tourism and Pravasi Co-operative society was established. The whole district of Malappuram, except the panchayat areas of Nannam Mukku, Maramcherry, Alamkode were under jurisdiction of the Society. The society started functioning with its head office in JSJ Plaza in Wandoor Kalikavu road under Kerala Co operative Society act with registration number M 862 on 22nd February 2021. Attached to the head office, Sahya Leisure, its initial venture is also being operated. All the services related with the traveling, like train ticketing bus ticketing and services related with internal and International tour are available from this office. There are about 200 numbers in society including persons working in GCC countries and Saudi Arabia and those who are living in the hometown.

Sahya Arts and Science College is the second venture of the society. Wandoor has been facing a severe shortage of a good standard educational facility for the last 50 years. Even though initially it was due to the lapse from the part of the old generation, many of the attempts which had been made in the second stage became futile due to the red tape from the Government. The strong determination from the part of the society to overcome this dearth, that Sahya Arts and Science College has been a reality. As per government order, the jurisdiction of the Co-operative societies should be confined to taluk level, the society is renamed itself as Sahya Pravasi Co-operative Society no.862 (SPC) on 25th June 2020. 'If there is a will there is a way' This is the apt proverb to describe the history of Sahya Arts and Science College. The severe shortage of educational institutions, capable of offering high quality higher education in Malappuram District in general and Kizhakken Eranad, (spreading over 8 panchayats) in particular, paved the way for the establishment of Sahya College. To establish the college 5 acres of land was required. It was found at the most convenient place. The next task was to find sufficient fund to buy the land. It was undertaken under the leadership of Mr CK. MUBARAK to raise the fund, under his leadership of him a team visited Saudi Arabia in January 2013. An application was submitted to the University of Calicut. Sanction for establishing a college was granted as per Government order 937/2013/Higher Education dtd 28/05/2013. On July 4th 2013 it started function with 93 students in 4 degree courses.
