National Workshop on Financial Education for Economics Students

The Department of Economics of Sahya Arts & Science College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and National Institute of Securities Markets (NiSM), successfully organized a National Workshop on “Financial Education for Economics Students” on 7th and 8th January 2026 at the College Auditorium.

The workshop was organized with the objective of enhancing financial literacy among economics students and providing them with practical exposure to financial markets, investment awareness, and securities education. The programme aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world financial practices, thereby improving students’ employability and decision-making skills.

The resource person for the workshop was Dr. A. Mahadevan, Principal, Professor, and Research Supervisor, Thangavel Women’s Arts & Science College, Valapady, Salem. Dr. Mahadevan delivered comprehensive sessions on key aspects of financial education, including the structure of financial markets, investment instruments, risk management, and the role of regulatory institutions. His expert insights and illustrative explanations helped students gain a clear understanding of contemporary financial systems.

The workshop witnessed active participation from economics students, who engaged enthusiastically in discussions and interactive sessions. The programme provided a valuable learning platform for students to strengthen their conceptual clarity and practical awareness of finance and securities markets.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, IQAC members, organizing committee, and participants for their cooperation and support. Overall, the national workshop was highly informative and contributed significantly to the academic enrichment of economics students.
